Seongok Seowon Academy,
A place of picturesque beauty
In the courtyard of Seongok Seowon Academy stands a single Maehwa tree, the first to bloom in the cold of winter.
The Maehwa blossom symbolizes the integrity of a Seonbi, who maintains dignity even in the face of hardships.
Here, a special variety called Unyong Maehwa, with a trunk that twists and spirals upward like a dragon ascending
through the clouds, has been planted. The tree is named 'Saryong,' meaning 'honoring the spirit of Seoae Ryu Seong-Ryong.'
